Once Upon a Time

"...laughing like hyenas and skipping down the sidewalk..."

Once Upon a Time

If I remember correctly, we were both 16 years old
and it was New Years Eve, my good friend Miles
was staying over and at around 1 in the morning,
knowing my parents were asleep, we went down the
back steps into the backyard, smoked some marijuana
next to the redwood tree, and as soon as we went out
through the alleyway door we started laughing like
hyenas and skipping down the sidewalk not realizing
there was a cop car parked across the street and when
one of the cops yelled stop, we froze in our tracks,
and coming up to us holding a flashlight, he started
asking a bunch of questions like how old are you
and where do you live and when he asked how come
we were out on our own, neither of us could answer,
and when he asked why we were skipping I just said
we were trying to get home faster, which of course
was a lie because home was in the opposite direction,
but not knowing this he just said I better not see you boys
out here in five more minutes or it’s gonna be trouble,
and after thanking him, we quickly walked around the block
and into my parent’s house.
