Homeless Encounter
Coming back to my car, I see this pitiful looking homeless
woman sitting down with her back against a wall.
After she gives me a smile revealing missing teeth,
I take out my wallet, draw out five and put it in her hand.
“Thanks mister!” she responds. “Now I have enough
for a hamburger. Would you please take me over there?”
Immediately thinking it would not be a good idea to have her
in my car, I answer, “I’m sorry I can’t do that, but I’m glad
you now have enough for a burger.”
Stuffing the five into her ragged shirt pocket, she replies,
“Oh well, I guess I could walk over there. It’s only a few
blocks away.”
And before getting into my car, I give her three more dollars
and say, “Use this for a drink. Pretty hard to enjoy a burger
without something to wash it down!”
