Ideals Revisited

I can remember
how betrayed I felt
when I realized
that not everyone
    CAN
become president
that money
    DOES
matter very much,
that America is
    MORE RACIST now than I ever realized,
that core concepts like
-       Fairness
-       Justice
-       Morality
-       Free Will
were hollow fairy tales,
that my Calvinist upbringing
was not only NOT the
    RIGHT WAY
but was
-       Illogical
-       Immoral
-       Inhumane
and ultimately allowed for
a privileged few to
-       Judge
-       Condemn
-       Control
everyone else and perhaps
most damning of all,
that poetry could
    NEVER SOLVE IT.
