Wind

"...Riding out the storm..."

Wind

North wind
Midnight howling
Rattling windows
Shaking shutters
Old house moaning
Time to huddle
Under warm covers
Thick quilts
Riding out the storm
Tucked in
Safe and warm
Trying to ignore
Throughout the long night
The cold
All the way
Until daybreak
The frozen land
Awaits
Those first
Tentative
Icy steps
Of the new day.
