Pole of Light
The cold ocean lashes its waves against the shore.
Reaching for a slow flicker in the pitch dark
In darkness, the white foam soared.
At the shore, the waves drench the man of the pole.
It’s salt in my eyes; I stumbled across the sand.
They came in huge—the waves to swallow me whole.
I sprint into Lightning Rod and shutter the light.
The great disaster dissolved into sleeping foam.
The shimmering blue sea looked on, flickering bright,
The black waves just bow to the beam
For the sea, the two feet of flesh are just deadwood.
