Desire

By Lydia Manx

Desire...always euphoric
till its edges catch your heart
then gasps of aches fill the void
only to be torn asunder
a gentle whim of one faint of heart

Woman, girl-child trained, afloat in minds
harsh reality holds them to unkind light
patience is rewarded by feral smiles
too soon morning dawns her bitter side
crashing once again on the hard earth

Wait for there is a tale to be told
of love and lust
the tale sung in songs
embraced by all
or is it just
a painful myth?
