Keeping Up With The Suzukis

At three a.m. our neighbours' lights go out
I wonder what they do
Between the midnight car trip
To the convenience store
And that light bulb's last extinction.

At three a.m. our neighbours' lights go out -
I wonder if they know
That while they're dreaming
Of gleaming new Toyotas
And digital TVs

The owl glides ghostly
Over their balcony
And the white-striped vulperine
Creeps into their garden
And sniffs at their door.
