A Boy's Life

"Far too young, he was -- they said ..." Yes, all of them are.

A Boy's Life

Far too young, he was -- they said
To have a leg that's half as red
As that short stump beneath his knee
Where 'camo' ends --
'Though he can't see.

And maybe it's 'cos God is kind
That He has made the poor kid blind
So that the boy just cannot see
His blown-off boot, up in that tree
That wetly drips on him and me.
