A Liturgical Infatuation

We met late in Common Time;
Those unimaginatively-named
but warm
weeks between Pentecost and Advent.

All-Hallows passed.
Physical attraction,
Increased information
and attraction leading to admiration.
Seeing something beautiful
both on the surface and deeper inside.

Advent and its hopeful maybes.
Greater dreams on a foggy horizon.
slow times
conversation,
and a few shared smiles
to ring in the new year.

Yet one cannot be past Assumption
and its "happily ever afters,"
when yet to feel
Candlemas and its soft glow.

Calendars change
and the pre-lenten Sundays,
their Latin stripped away,
and a dull lack of movement.

But Good Friday came far too early
And Ash Wednesday only confirms
the sad truth,
Feeling Lent as one long Holy Saturday.

So I sit here
mourning the burst bubble of my feelings.
Watching as the sun rises sooner,
sets later.
And waiting for something new,
and the renewed hope of Easter.
