Today Is Not the Worst Day of My Life

Today is not the worst day of my life.
Nobody I know has died
or suffered serious injury,
No one is hooked to a respirator,
the piercing "beep, beep, beep," documenting their fading existence.

My health is good.
No hovering question marks clouding my well-being.
My finances, such as they are, I can't complain.
Work goes well, this being a fair addition.
No, today is not the worst day of my life.

It's just that my heart's been broken,
Something I've felt before.
Too many times?
Perhaps, but I'll survive.
Pretend for a while that she has not filled
so many of my recent dreams and fantasies.
Eventually I'll find someone new
and move on.
No, today is not the worst day of my life.
