Early Morning Walk

'...one-thousand statistical mysteries.
I wonder who they are
and wonder if I really want to know...'

Early Morning Walk

Passing so many houses.
There are people within,
statistically-certainty.
But those only form the frame,
leaving one-thousand statistical mysteries.
I wonder who they are
and wonder if I really want to know.

Cars pass by.
Occasionally I'll see
an attractive woman sitting behind the wheel
with kids,
Motherhood comes early in these parts.
As if the Pill had never been invented,
Young women putting lust
before any dreams of a career.

Lita has a career -- and kids.
Hard for me to accept the truth,
that I never had a chance with her.
But she already has found the man of her dreams.

So I pass these houses
and their statistically-assured
two-point-five inhabitants,
Wondering if inside one of them might be
the woman of my dreams.
