The Day They Closed Up

"...when they put their blinders on..."

It was like a sinus infection,
typical, I suppose, when their
heads started to close, when
they put their blinders on,
when they cast themselves
into the room with no windows,
like the old store that appeared
one day with boards on its
windows in the town that slowed
down when I was young.
