The Government Lied

"...in their counting counted the coins of his crime..."

The Government Lied

It was the police
That put a hole through him.
They dragged him through the streets
Into their black Maria,
Lifeless in his own blood.

They counted his secret sin secretly
And in their counting counted
The coins of his crime
As his cries against the high places
Of injustice and lies.

The police put a hole through him.
The people put a nail through him.

The government lied.
