House on Rodgers

"...spiders dwelling in ceiling corners...cobwebs hanging off fans..."

House on Rogers

dried paint drippings
uneven cracked spackle
ants on countertops
spiders dwelling in ceiling corners
cobwebs hanging off fans
silverfish run through tub drains
cave crickets crawl garage walls
amongst a hundred dead flies
a dead dog lies in the backyard
a living dog lies halfway dead in the hall
the cat meows for a sip of water
nails protrude from sheetrock
the attic fan hums red
pipes bang inside walls
baseboards drown in water
and floorboards creak when nothing is present.
this house may have its problems,
but at least
i am
warm
most nights.
