On One Hand Low, On The Other, Not One Glow

"...now the same souls have landed hard on the ground..."

On One Hand Low, On The Other, Not One Glow

where are the stars that danced and dazzled them?
were those fooling fads, pathetic paper-fuelled fires?
or lighting bugs having a reaction inside their bodies?

they seemed to have awed and blinded gullible souls
now the same souls have landed hard on the ground
it's not green -- it's gross, so gross it has hairy horns!

they cry, they're low, not high but dry and scrawny
they say they see big winged beetles: high, roving
since twinkling stars are not fireflies' kinsfolks at all
