Downhill Racing

"...The gradual engagement of entropy gains traction over time..."

Downhill Racing

The broken wheel of happiness rolls on,
skewered, lopsided body in motion
sent reeling, spinning off course.

Emcee introduces
souls ready for remedy
signed on to speak in turn,

reading aloud scribbled doodles
declaring dockets of gaping wounds
from remembered crises, world

sadly beset with chaos, gone awry
in an array of scrambled emotion:
taking notes, taking prisoners.

Yet how ever else could it be?
The gradual engagement of entropy
gains traction over time, years

folding in like creases
of a large blanket to warm
this squall of uncertain feelings,

to cover and protect against
elected horn-rimmed pretender's
latest sleight of hand.

The motion is approved,
sure as age begets wisdom.
Smattering of applause follows

as waiting begins anew
for next outsized catastrophe
to inspire incredulity
worth seeking to understand.
