Sonnet IV

"...all shuttered and now covered in moss..."

Sonnet IV

Like the Sphinx, my life is absent its nose.
What meaning it had has been lost in time.
Nothing I can do will stop the sand flows
Covering me in this new paradigm.
Like the Great Pyramid I am gutted,
What treasures there might have been are all lost.
The arenas through which I once strutted
Are all shuttered and now covered in moss.
I do not think of myself as useless,
I've skills that I think can be productive
Although maybe that is just my hubris,
The hope that I'm not merely reductive.
Still, I'm afraid when I'm laid in repose
You'll find I'm buried with the Great Sphinx' nose.

Very good analogies that I understand completely. I find my frame of references so ancient and dated that those in the modern vernacular have no idea what I'm talking about.
