Sat by the River

"...purling and deep from snow-melt..."

Sat by the river

on top a stone wall,
water camouflage-green
purling and deep from
snow-melt; liquid gold
where the rays of sun
touched the surface:
afraid I would fall
off the wall and into the
water if I fell asleep, but
did, then woke
with a start, chin on
chest, the river sparkle
of currents, eddies,
moving unconcernedly to
the distant bend.
