What Knight in Shining Armor!

"Knight in Shining Armor" -- first in a series of poems. "...A shadowy figure as pale as the breeze..."

What Knight in shining armor!

Knight in shining armor! There he stands
A shadowy figure as pale as the breeze,
Looking at me with his pale black eyes,
Asking questions that went unanswered
When he conducted his life here, mingling
With people known and unknown.

Knight in shining armor! There he stands
Testimony to his vain cause, asking me
Questions, the answer to which all
He was afraid to listen to and chose
A path instead that led him to his
Oblivion, beyond life and beyond
Death. A shadowy figure!

Knight in shining armor! There he stands,
Imploring assistance and offering it instead
Knowing fully well that his valor has led him,
Unknowingly though, to his destruction.
He needs help! Knight in shining armor!

He waged a vain war by handholding
Warriors he sought to destroy! And now
Destroyed he stands beyond the horizon!
A pale face merging into the stars and
White light entering and exiting from it!
