Cradle

"The gravel road led to an abandoned skeletal shed..."

Cradle

The gravel road led
to an abandoned
skeletal shed

I peered in and saw
scattered woodwork tools
a sight gave me pause

On the center of a table
as tears threatened to flow
an unfinished cradle

Memories filled my mind
of a grandfather and an unborn child
their spirits forever entwined

Turning my back on things
that belonged to the past
I fled before my heart unhinged
