Homeless Dream

"...Sleeping on a pile of newspapers on a footpath of Kolkata..."

Homeless Dream

I saw the beggar woman
In a dream
Her face like mother Mary
Sleeping on a pile of newspapers
On a footpath of Kolkata
With her Jesus fast asleep
By her side. And then came
The rain and the storm.

With no shelter above and around
Rain was like acid blast and wind
Electric whip.

I woke up in my dream
And as I was about to
Ask Mary and Jesus
To accompany me to
A safer place there appeared
A beam of white light
And walking along the beam
Came a saint in white robe.
"There will come a day on
The earth when there will
Be no one homeless."

And I woke up and whispered,
"Let my dream come true."
Did the men of the world listen?
