Trip

I never knew
his real name
Everyone called
him Trip
for obvious
reasons

At first
he was just
this fun guy
Always had
weed
Always a little
stoned

The first time
I saw him
snort heroin
you could see
the change
You could just tell
this was him now

I caught him
shooting up
in my kitchen
and had to
throw him out

He showed me
A section of vein
about two
inches long
that was hard
and swollen
It was like he was
proud of it

The last time
I saw him
I picked him up
hitchhiking
And he didn't
know who I was

Asked me for money
as I dropped
him off
I gave him
a twenty
and said
later Trip

He stopped
for a second
Looked at me
like I was
a ghost
