4:36 am coffee pot

the cold coffee
runs down the throat
to meet with the raging
gastric acid
as
the city begins
to awaken
and face yet another
day
of confinement.

the only protein is hate.
the only protein is fear.
the only protein
is banging your fists
against the windows
until the glass
cuts through the flesh
and jags itself deep
into the bone.
