Counting Time

"...Like a barren land he lies Looking at starry night sky..."

Counting Time

Like a barren land he lies
Counting days and nights
Since the rains drenched
Him for the last time
Perhaps a millennium ago.

Like a barren land he lies
Looking at starry night sky
And thinking of a forgotten
Time when his cravings were
Answered by time and night.

Today as day melts into night
And sleep refuses to be
Blessed, he thinks of time
Forgotten and it whispers
Into his ears ...

"Yesterdays are lighted fools,
Way to dusty death ... "

But his candle is still burning
As he waits for the return
Of another night!
