Supernormal Stimulus

"...No longer able to choose sides..."

Supernormal Stimulus

When I first saw the Matrix, it was hard
To understand why Cypher would choose to
Be replugged, why he had little regard
For blue pill worlds that let his eyes see new
Then I learned of the brown male beetle of
The Outback, its attempts to copulate
With beer bottle caps, falling in such love
That beetle females did not stimulate
I, expat for decades, have become unplugged
No longer able to choose sides, culture
Wars in my new eyes, promising spilt blood
Community, friendship, social structure
Blue pill worlds unmoored, I echo Cypher's
Wish, reinstatement and none the wiser
