this side of Ohio River's shaky grin
& ask what pizzas they recommend.

You don't ask for an across town lift
from a driver who constantly totals
anything possessing wheels to steer.

You don't expect lifechanging advice
while standing behind the gentleman
toeing the ledge of highest floor.

& yet, here we are, sitting at the Cork,
feeling our appetites suddenly change
after surviving that crazy ride over.
