wish i hadn't wasted my time

"you thought you could stop me from becoming..."

wish i hadn't wasted my time

you thought you could stop me
from becoming,
and your words stung for a while;
but they are just dead hornets now

they can no longer hurt me --

every spiderweb of your name is
unoccupied because all spiders of you
know not to bother me now,

and sometimes i still reel from the heartlessness
of you and your insincerity;

but it could be worse: i could be you --

i, at least, remember my value and my magic;
my voice and my power are my own and i know
that my worth is something more than you could
ever afford but i do wish that i hadn't wasted my time
loving a man who couldn't even love himself.
