In the Middle of Haplessness and Helplessness

Issues of rights and labels baffle me,
I hear Zimbabweans in South Africa
are being hunted and hurtled away
chiefly for the reason of being ...
'foreigners', or 'undocumented', etc.

Issues of rights and labels baffle me,
in a spiral of ironic theater of hunger
of humanity on the part of the powers
in Zimbabwe, Binga villagers in Zimbabwe
face an uncertain and unwelcoming future.

Issues of rights and labels baffle me,
I also read that Binga villagers are being
told in no uncertain terms to vacate
their ancestral land by 'foreigners'
to pave way for a coal-mining project!

Issues of rights and labels baffle me,
I am beginning to wonder what 'rights'
are and what 'Africanness' is and where
else will Binga people who are careered
away from South Africa seek refuge?
