A Sore Back Morning When No One Is Listening

"...the world seems to be giving me the silent treatment..."

A Sore Back Morning When No One Is Listening

Whispering an argument against myself again
about proper sleep posture,
while the world seems to be giving me the silent treatment
again, even though I was a punctual Sunday school student,
but the girl I sat next to was much more diligent,
eventually becoming a pharmacist --
how we hate waiting in those lines
for prescriptions to be filled,
as the rattle of pills in bottles
becomes the only noise
we can make
long after others have stopped listening
long enough to call it love.
