The Privilege of Joy

"...The pyramids and the stones, they are both built of broken spines..."

The Privilege of Joy

The dynasty never stays intact eternally
Blooming is seasonal, greatness is nothing without timing
No matter how well rehearsed the move, it must be punctual
Even if it is unpunctuated like the letters I write to my lover
There is no need to stop if there is more to say

I regret hesitation as much as I regret spontaneity
Years of building and the destruction of it weigh the same
The pyramids and the stones, they are both built of broken spines
Books and those who couldn't read them, such as the sick without medicine

It isn't that you can't get better, it's that all around you conspires against it
I could be happy, if only I would allow such a thing
