I Would Rather

By Nolcha Fox

I Would Rather

I would rather drink the clouds,
hear the roses sing to rivers,
taste the leaves before they fall,
smell the twilight,
laugh at darkness,
free the wild child in my heart,

than watch my image in the mirror
glowing dimmer,
fading into gold.
