Battlefield

The dead litter the K Street Mall
six bodies in all and 12 wounded
reminiscent of Bucha after
the Russian occupation
only our bloody battlefield is not a freedom fight
our battle is fueled by alcohol, anger, fear, firearms

The echo of automatic weapons and screams
will haunt another altar to the worship of
violence -- our American exceptionalism
on daily display and coming to a location near you
