like a law

"...real people on their way to their real jobs..."

like a law

I stop scanning and packing
for one second
and look up at the queue I've been serving all this time:
real people on their way to their real jobs,
and
people who've never worked a day in their lives.
they're all equal, here in my queue:
they're all entitled to my service
and by god they're gonna get it:
I put my head back down
and get scanning and packing again:
second's over.
