The Kitten

"...bounding around trying to figure out what it is..."

The Kitten

Bounding and pouncing,
the kitten plays
with a pen.

Trying to figure out
what this funny tool is for,
it bats at the ink,
having a grand old time.

Poetry is like that kitten,
playful and curious,
bounding around trying to figure out what it is.

Some people may see a useless toy,
but to the kitten,
it is the most important thing in the world.

The kitten can't help but play with the pen,
like poets can't help but play with words.
