Portrait of the Artist as a Lover

Every time I set myself
to turning an idea
into a poem,
works-in-progress
lure me,
appealing to my
conflicting humours
and preventing
their own fruition.

Maybe this is how
lovers see poets:
unworthy
of unsplit attention,
we are loved in fragments
and from varied sources.
