The Music Returns
The music has returned this last
Few weeks and for that I’m grateful
As it gives me a distraction away
From the drinking and something to
Do at home besides all the writing,
All the reading and
All that watching.
Something to listen to is often a
Wonderful thing, sometimes yet it is a
Horrible nasty thing. You see to me
There is beauty in the work of Brian
Wilson but also in the music of, let’s say,
The Dwarves, a bunch of butt-naked punks
Ready for a fight with a penchant for songs
Under a minute long.
There’s a world of difference I know but I
Say, hell they’re both rock’n’roll! Right
Now if anyone asked I’d turn them onto
The mighty Los Crudos, a 90s era Mexican
Punk band, or Waylon Jennings, a guitar
Player par excellence who’s played with
A lot of the country greats. Then there are
The Remains, a proto-punk band from 60s
Nuggets era Americana or maybe good old
Boy Leadbelly with his songs of heartbreak
And Ornette Coleman pointing us towards
The shape of jazz still yet to come but that
Is just today’s offering...
