Dogwalker

"best dark is under the blankets late at night..."

Dogwalker

best dark
is under the blankets late at night
no sound
no light
only something breathing
that might be me
or could be
just a dream

of the long invisible night
when the brain runs away
to a universe
with no planets no suns
no gods and no men
where nothing alive
need know it’s alive

until the morning
kick-starts the brain
the body reels
like a motorcycle kicked over

and for one
beautiful moment
there is no voice
to foul my mind
like a duck drowned
in fisherman’s line

only the name-chain
around my neck
licking me like a dog
till I bleed
