Early morning, fast traffic

"...drifting past exits at the edge of the city..."

Early morning, fast traffic

anonymous things
on the roadverge.
parliaments sitting
forgotten: a hubcap.
a torn grey shirt.
wild blackberries –
poison – swelled
fat with exhaust,
their brightness and dust.

drifting past exits
at the edge of the city,
I push through the engine
and roll past a series
of roundabouts. I love
these short moments –

early morning, fast traffic
and exits for business parks –
the anonymous movement
of cars on anonymous roads.
