Smiling Sun?

"...across the horizon to paint veins of molten gold ..."

Smiling Sun?

A blush spreads across
the horizon to paint veins
of molten gold as birds
awaken the dawn.

The sun rides higher.
The skyscraper changes
contours. On a clear day,
it becomes an azure plane

uninterrupted by clouds.
Sometimes, clouds create
mountains, hidden valleys
and concealed caves.

On such days, the sun
has playmates. They
play hide and seek
in the distant stretch

with the earth gazing
in wonder. Sometimes,
with its lush green and
blue, it ponders —

How lonely the sun must be
in the sky… the only one of
its kind. Maybe, that’s why
it shines. Yet you and I think,
    it smiles!
