Being Intellectual

We used to put on classical music
when we were drunk,
convinced we were being intellectual
even as we blacked out,
and years later I have no idea
what or who we listened to,
but know my Monday nights
and middle-aged pains
seem less sober now
because of Bach and Brahms.
