Stranger

"...revealing hints of secret worlds..."

Stranger

The winter sunshine glanced off
window panes, and splintered
on windshields of moving cars

like slivers of solstice
chasing brighter days
lighting up the undersides of leaves,

revealing hints of secret worlds,
delicately webbed, like the blood vessels
of hidden relationships.

In that jumble of buildings
you find yourself in a trance
a moment of civic clairvoyance.

You feel you have stumbled
into the minds of others
and hesitate at the threshold of thought,

not yours, and wonder whether to knock,
or to tarry awhile as a character in a wrong play
a dramatis persona who has lost her way.
