Guest columnist Alex invites you to join her in a bit of armchair tourism, whisking you to the marvelous little resort town of Zermatt.

Virtual Tourist: Zermatt

Should I ever win the lottery, I know where I will make my next home. There is a little town in the Swiss Alps, under the shadow of the Matterhorn. No motorized vehicles are allowed, making it a tiny paradise.

Quaint, perhaps. But a finely tuned tourist resort, as well. Rest assured that no whim could go unmet in this charming little alpine town.

I'm hardly the only "eccentric American" to have the idea. The Hotel Post has five bars http://www.hotelpost.ch/alteSite/mainpages/bars.htm -- one for every possible mood and plenty of photos to help you decide which to attend.

I'm sure that the practicality of living in Zermatt would be annoying, especially since I don't like to ski. Or drink. Or dance. Or get too cold. But I still love the sheer amount of photos and information available over the 'Net on Zermatt. For an armchair virtual tourist, Zermatt is a fulfilling online destination. Heck, it's almost as good as being there. (Maybe even better.)
