how it settles

"...bulged, blank, darting eyes..."

along a purple stripe hall
you can see yourself
how it settles
in bulged, blank,
darting eyes
hear its jibber

we pass along
quiet as mice
a woman huddled
under heated blankets
repeats one word -- hi
hi -- hi -- hi -- hi --
hi above
a buzzard circles
