Linda Lerner's latest poetry collection, "A Dance Around the Cauldron," is a prose work consisting of nine characters during the Salem witch trials brought into our own times (Lummox Press, September, 2017.)

Define It

Two women on skateboards are
heading straight toward me showing no
intention to change course or by their smiles
any desire to hit me which
a thank-you does, after I swerve
out of their way, did it for me
not you,
I throw back in this fast moving
volley ball impromptu gone in
whip lashing bewilderment
               same time it took
for me to get that call from the hospital
that he was gone ... I didn't say
I don't understand, that a month later
I still don't, because I get it. Only I don't
