Tears of Rust

"...contemplating the jagged edge of an ancient life..."

Tears of rust

Why did the old man cry at midday?
standing beside the abyss he knew well
contemplating the jagged edge of an ancient life
why did an old man cry yet again?

He looked to the invisible bottom
pondering a fate still shrouded in mystery
listening to a call from the fire above
seeking the smile he once harbored so well.
