Lake Champagne

"...a million specks of light, two million divots of shadow..."

Lake Champagne

2 sailboats at anchor
on the lake:
shadows on the water,
sun and
Bentonesque clouds;
a million specks of light
two million divots of shadow
a distant mountain range in
a blue haze
and gulls,
crows,
trees,
fish
in the blue depths,
sturgeons the
size of canoes,
minnows the
size of fingernail clippers,
and others,
like me,
all under pressure of
cubic centimeters
of atmosphere.
