Just Like Yesterday

"...they act as if knights errant with their swords..."

Just Like Yesterday

Watching the greens spreading to oceans
the virus conquered beyond the horizon.

Wheeled white carcasses they race
maggots seeking yet another rotten meal
they slalom on the manmade scars.

Shiny tops, rusty joints, arched skeletons
they act as if knights errant with their swords
shining in the eagerly awaiting lightning.

They roar at the speed of death
bombarding the living with dying anger.

Half blind zombies, they seem aliens to the realm
searching within little holes in the planet
under the jealous glare of hungry gophers.

There was once a time when they mattered
riding the highways of existence to the bank
but the spark has dimmed in the glazed pupils.

Pretending to play for one last adventure
they push on the gas to the eighteenth.

Leaving a trail of empty aluminum behind
meek bracelet celebrating their earthly mother
they crawl into rivers of contaminated milk.

They are just like Ebola these odd mounts
plague upon a noble land tortured by the sadness
of those who seek yet a pathway to another destiny.
