Ask the Glass

"...it shines like jagged jewels..."

Ask The Glass

don't ask me
ask the glass
the shattered glass in city streets
across the nation
maybe it feels free
sharp and dangerous
a million fragments
reflecting clouds of tear gas
angry faces and the moon
maybe it feels good
not to be a barrier
not to showcase lifeless mannequins
draped in sweatshop agony
not to stand between the people
and their looted wealth
their stolen lives
to stare no more
in smooth acquiescence to atrocity
now it is broken
it could slice bare soles to ribbons
it shines like jagged jewels
from the bloody asphalt
a million mirrors for shadows
and flame
