Rebirth

"...The tsunami took you from me..."

Rebirth

A poem about the death of a child and the belief in his reincarnation

I wait for your return
To my arms
My child
You’ve been gone for decades now
The tsunami took you from me
But lay bare your skeleton

Sleepless nights at the shrine
Rituals and cash spent
Yet your dirge erupts through bended walls caused by your death
Your sorrowful epithet
Permanently inscribed like a tribal mark
On my thumbs

One day, a kick I heard
Eagerly, I await your rebirth
Through my pregnant new wife
