Sudoku

"...Silence has a way of telling stories..."

Sudoku

They watch
From windows and nowhere --

Where the road bends
Which tree forgot to bear fruit
Why the afternoon tasted stale
Whose shadow lingered the longest

Who did not speak to whom
About harvests and endless ravines
And what the souls exchanged
On bleak highways, hidden from eyes

Silence has a way of telling stories
Eyes watch but cannot decipher --
A sudoku, maybe, on your morning paper
So near, so there, but not yet, not still

Words buried under bricks or stones
Tells us sans verbs and adjectives
How long silences last

How long it takes for digits to die
In cold alleyways of clues and
Unspoken hints
